South Maxico consists of the four freelance-musicians Max Schultz, Erik Söderlind, Fredrik Jonsson & Robert Ikiz. The group was formed in the fall of 2004, at a time when the musicians were involved in several other projects - ranging from combo-jazz & symphony orchestras to pop & studio-recordings.

Original songs were rehearsed and from the very beginning you could notice the broad sound of South Maxico. They are influenced by a variety of genres, with jazz-music as their basic platform. The original sound with two guitars is charactaristic for the group, but also the strong melodies, some of them written back in the 80´s by Max Schultz, but the´ve not been recorded until now.

The debut-album (5 O'clock Tea) incluing 15 tracks, most of them written by Max Schultz, was recorded live. Strong melodies, solo-parts with just the right length, a vast amount of various sounds and varied rhythms is differential for this record.

In the opening track Bobo (dedicated to Bobo Stensson), Ikiz´s groove & Ray´s Place, the two guitarists impress us with their turns of solos. The Ballads Grandmother's Dream & Anushka include acoustic guitars and percussion, which adds an extra flavour to this 5 O'clock Tea. In the longest track Blue Max (5:27) Jonsson shows his strength and Tastefulness on the double-bass. And in Ikiz´s Groove he shows how well he plays together with Ikiz in an up-tempo tune, with traces of blues, twist & drum´n bass. Ikiz shows his range of talent in songs like Clara & Elin and Our Kind of cha-cha.

5 O'clock Tea is perfectly suited just for the afternoon-tea, a delightful debut-album from South Maxico
